The motivation of avoiding stings has meant a long history of protective equipment innovation. An expectorating-tube, 0, passes through the gauze in the line of the mouth and properly fastened to the gauze. This device is more for the convenience of tobacco chewers than others.
The image shows a narrow expectorating tube protruding and the illustration appears to show an alternative device with a large funnel end.
